A quantum magnetic analogue to the critical point of water

An international team of physicists published in Nature (https://arxiv.org/abs/2009.14492) the first evidence of first-order quantum phase transition in a quantum spin system SrCu2(BO3)2 which shows a critical point analogue to what we found in water. Our findings reveal quantum magnets as promising functional materials in applications of spintronics and quantum computing.

We are highly motivated to develop new measurements of specific heat of SrCu2(BO3)2 under simultaneous extreme conditions in LQMEC and in our Swiss collaborator LQM-EPFL lab.
